• The Longmoor Curriculum

    The Longmoor Curriculum follows the requirements of the National Curriculum 2014, but is wider than this, being unique to this school and community as well as being flexible enough to meet the needs of any particular cohort of pupils at any given point in time. It sets high standards and has high expectations of what our children can achieve. It offers our pupils opportunities in and outside of school to investigate, discover, enquire and imagine, opening their eyes to the possibilities available to them now and in their future lives.

    We teach all the statutory National Curriculum subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Foreign Languages, Music and R.E. In addition, we provide physical, social, health and emotional education (PSHE) and we are a Philosophy4Children school.

    In EYFS and Key Stage 1, we use the Letters and Sounds phonics scheme supplemented by resources from Phonics Bug/Bug Club.

    Topic webs are produced by the start of each half-term by the teachers in each year-group. Their purpose is to give teachers a useful overview of the subjects and themes they plan to cover in the half-term and to share this information in an easy-to-read format with subject co-ordinators, school leaders, children and parents. Visit the Year-group pages under the ‘Pupils’ tab at the top of this page to see the topic webs for this year.

    The following links provide parents and carers with the long-term curriculum plan for each year group for the academic year. Please do be aware though that whilst the curriculum content will generally not change, timings and the topics/contexts used may alter as dictated by the needs of the children.       Keeping Safe and Healthy

      The ‘Keeping Safe and Healthy’ curriculum we have developed in school incorporates PSHE along with relationships education, elements of safeguarding and eSafety. It also has strong links to SMSC and the promotion of British values. 

      We take advantage of opportunities to deliver this curriculum with other curriculum subjects wherever possible and use the services of other professionals, theatre companies and charitable organisations to help deliver these vital messages to our children.

      British Values

      As part of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all pupils at Longmoor Community Primary School, we are committed to the promotion of those fundamental British values which will prepare our children for life in modern Britain – democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. These values are exemplified in the words, actions and influences of everyone in school, rooted in our values and ethos and reflected in the school’s mission statement and aims.

      They are seen in our curriculum – in particular our PSHE programme, Philosophy4Children and R.E. lessons; in our promotion of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development; in our assemblies and collective worship; in our visits and visitors – including links with community and charity groups; in our democratically-elected School Council and our House System; in our relationships with local police, fire and other community services.
