Police dogs and fire engines!

26th June 2018

As part of ‘When I Grow Up…’ week, Reception were lucky enough to come face to face with two of our emergency services.  Paul and Mark from the police dog section brought two of their working dogs to meet us and demonstrate their skills.  Banjo, a spaniel, is a sniffer dog whose job is to recover property – his sense of smell is 250 times better than ours!  Vinny, a German Shepherd, showed us how obedient and strong he is – he also retrieved some hidden keys using just his sense of smell.  We walked over to the local Baptist church to see the fire engine – we waited inside the church building, away from the heat of the sun, thanks to Mrs. Peveley, a good friend of the school who used to work at Longmoor.  The fire engine arrived, complete with fire fighters, but just as the hoses were about to come out….the team were called to an emergency, which obviously takes precedence!  However, we are hopeful that we will get another chance to see the fire engine before the end of term.
