Chinese Festival Week

27th February 2018

As part of our celebrations for Chinese New Year, we’re participating in the whole-school Chinese Festival programme.  We’ve tasted noodles and rice, opened fortune cookies, practised using chopsticks, listened to stories (The Great Race, The Story of Xi, The Dragon in the City), played in our China Town role play area, written Chinese symbols in glitter and sand, copied Chinese numbers outside with chalk….and there’s still lots more to come!  Soon, we’ll be having our first taster session in how to speak Mandarin, and will be watching a lion dance performance too!  We’re planning to make Chinese lanterns and have also booked a taster lesson in how to write using Chinese script.  Ask your child if they can remember why animals are used in the Chinese calendar, or why the colour red is so important at Chinese new Year.
