During Year 6’s science topic on ‘Electricity’, they have been exploring circuit boards to help them understand all the different components which can be used to build various circuits. So far we have been exploring actual circuit components, naming them and knowing how to draw them on a circuit diagram.

Yesterday, using the circuit boards, children trialled various circuits investigating whether they would work or not. They realised that circuits need a power source (a cell or a battery – more than one cell) to work. Furthermore, they observed that by using more batteries and only 1 light bulb, the light bulb was brighter. However when there was only 1 cell and 3 light bulbs, they were dimmer as the electrical power had to be shared between 3 components.
