Our first few weeks in Year 2

25th September 2016

We are now settling into Year 2 and we are all focusing on working hard! We have been concentrating on our Animals theme and we have read stories about Elmer and Mog. We were very sad to hear that Mog was missing from her house so we made posters which we sent off to the Thomas family. We were so surprised to get a letter from Mrs Thomas telling us that our descriptions of Mog were so detailed that she had been found! Next week we are excited to find out how Hamish the cat plays an important part in a story about a Lighthouse Keeper. We have also looked at contrasting colours in our Art work which was based on Elmer. Year 2 have also learned about the life cycles of humans and frogs and we made a fact book all about how frogs develop.

In other subjects, we were very interested to learn all about Nelson Mandela and his life and we also learned all about discrimination, which we explored in our philosophy discussions. We are excited to find out who we will learn about next in our famous people topic! Something exciting will be happening including this work later in the term – keep checking back on the website to find out!

Year 2 are now thinking about setting ourselves targets for this term and we have decided that we need to focus on using entry and exit strokes when we write our letters, to make sure we are ready for cursive writing. Parents and carers, please help us with this at home. You can find the handwriting guide in the downloads section or please ask a member of the team if you are unsure.
