School Council Election - the results are in

7th October 2017

Democracy came to Longmoor in September with our Student Elections for School Council. Nominated candidates gave election speeches to their year-groups and carried out very professional campaigns using posters, rosettes and even cupcakes to promote their candidacy! Voters queued with their polling cards to get a voting slip and exercise their democratic right and duty. Returning officers oversaw the whole voting process and reported back to the whole school that everyone was able to cast a vote, there were no procedural errors and there were no instances of voter fraud. Finally, our new school councillors were announced at Celebration Assembly. They are:

Year 6 – Patricia, Nel, Daniel, Emily

Year 5 – Lily-Mae, Layla, Joseph, Liam

Year 4 – Nathan, Freya, Ruby, Rosa

Year 3 – Kerrell, Alfie, Eva, Siggy

Year 2 – Lexie, Charlie, Luke, Emma

Congratulations to them all – they have already started work, booking meetings with our school caterers and our governing body.

The School Council has also already helped Mrs. James and Mrs. Grundy with the selection of the Year 5 candidate who will stand for Longmoor in the Junior Lord Mayor elections  at the Schools’ Parliament. Layla was selected for this honour, but the speeches made by all the Year 5 councillors were excellent and it was extremely hard to choose one person to represent the school from these very strong candidates. The councillors who were not selected are all supporting Layla in preparing for her speech at the Town Hall. Thank you to them for their generous help and good luck, Layla!
