Welcome Back!

4th September 2016

We have made a fantastic start to the year so far and have all settled in superbly. Shortly, you will be able to see photographs and examples of our work on our website.

This half term we will be electing two school councillors to represent our class.  At home, you could spend some time planning, writing and preparing your election speeches ready for the election.

One of the topics we will study this half term is New York, so if you have anything at home relating to this, please bring it in. Keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming work on this Geography topic.

We are excited to be introducing Mandarin Chinese this half term, and are fortunate to have a specialist visiting school to help us learn. Keep practising at home and research other cultures to assist you along the way.

Homework and spellings are given out on Fridays – homework to be returned by the following Thursday and spelling test to take place the following Friday. This half term, we will be asking you to prepare a spoken presentation about your favourite author, book or film. If it helps, you can create a powerpoint presentation to aid you. Presentations will take place in the last week of the half term.

Please remember to read your home reading book every night (focus on the skills of: fluency, expression, punctuation, tricky words – not just comprehension). This will have a positive impact on your progress. As well as your weekly homework, you should spend some time practising your times tables. Be sure to keep on learning the related division facts too!

Remember that we go swimming every Thursday.

The Year 5 teachers, Mrs. Leonard and Mr. Rimmer, and Mrs. Molyneux (learning support) are looking forward to teaching you this year!
