Year 5 Debaters Steal the Show!

11th February 2019

On Friday, our Year 5 debating team performed at Archbishop Beck’s annual debating competition. We debated the motion ‘Teaching a musical instrument should be compulsory in all UK primary schools’ and although we were (just!) pipped to 1st place by Leamington, our team received some lovely comments from the Judging Panel:

“It was clear that the team had prepared themselves thoroughly. Ruby was highlighted for her confidence and she was word perfect in her delivery with excellent eye contact with the audience. The fact that the two opposing teams referenced each other in their arguments was very interesting and equally the team responded well to the questions from the audience.”

As always, with any visit out of school, our team (and their Year 5 supporters) were amazing: “A big thank you to your staff and students who came to watch the competition. They were so well behaved and listened intently to all the debates. They were a real credit to you and your staff.”

We are very proud of our debating team and their performance – the standard of which continues to grow year on year. Well done to you all!
