Character Education

At Longmoor, we believe that who our children become is just as important as what they achieve. Through our approach to Character Education, we nurture kind, confident, respectful individuals who are ready to contribute positively to the world around them.

Character is not something we only talk about - it’s something we live every day.

Our Core Values - We’ve Got DRIVE:

At the heart of our school ethos are our five core values. These guide our decisions, shape our relationships, and define what it means to be a member of the Longmoor Family:

  • Determination - We work hard, keep going, and never give up on our goals.
  • Respect - We treat ourselves, others, and our world with kindness and care.
  • Integrity - We do the right thing, even when no one is watching.
  • Valour - We show courage, take risks, and rise to challenges with confidence.
  • Excellence - We strive to be the very best we can be in all that we do.

These values are woven into every part of school life - not laminated posters on the wall, but lived experiences that shape the adults our children are becoming.

How We Build Character at Longmoor:

  • Residential visits and outdoor adventures challenge children to grow in independence, resilience and teamwork.
  • Pupil leadership roles, including School Council, Eco Team, Reading Ambassadors and Playground Leaders, empower pupils to lead with integrity and voice.
  • Circle times and assemblies provide space for reflection, sharing, and values-led discussion.
  • The WISH Curriculum makes personal development explicit - promoting global awareness, emotional literacy and social responsibility.
  • Special themed weeks (e.g. Anti-Bullying Week, British Values Week) help us deepen our exploration of values in action.
  • Recognition and celebration - we proudly spotlight pupils who embody DRIVE, whether through attitude, behaviour or acts of kindness.

Character is not taught in a lesson - it is grown in a culture. At Longmoor, we grow greatness from within.
