RSE Consultation

At Longmoor Community Primary School, we are committed to providing a high-quality Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education curriculum that supports every child's personal development, wellbeing, and safety. As part of this, we teach Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), and Health Education in line with Department for Education (DfE) statutory guidance. Following the updated DfE guidance published in 2025, schools are reviewing their PSHE and RSE provision to ensure it remains age-appropriate, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of children in today's world.

Our school uses the Kapow Primary scheme of work to support the delivery of PSHE and RSE. This carefully planned programme helps pupils develop knowledge and understanding around:

  • Healthy friendships and respectful relationships
  • Families and caring relationships
  • Personal safety, including online safety
  • Physical and mental wellbeing
  • Puberty and growing up
  • Understanding emotions and seeking help when needed
  • Citizenship and living in the wider world

We believe that working in partnership with parents and carers is essential. We are therefore launching a consultation to gather your views on our PSHE and RSE curriculum and policy.

You are invited to:

  • Review our updated draft PSHE and RSE Policy at the bottom of this page
  • View the Kapow curriculum overview for your child's year group sent viaMCAS and available on the link below
  • Complete our Parent Consultation Google Form by Friday 15th May
  • Attend our parent information session at 3.15pm on Monday 18th May, where we will explain the curriculum and answer any questions (this can be booked via the school office).

We value your feedback and would like to ensure that our curriculum reflects both statutory requirements and the needs of our school community.

Following this period, the consultation results will be presented to the Governing Body on the following occasions:

  • Discussed at Inclusion, Curriculum and Provision Committee on Thursday 21st May
  • Policy ratified at full Governing Body Meeting on Thursday 21st May

Please note that Relationships Education and Health Education are statutory in primary schools. Parents do not have the right to withdraw children from these aspects of learning. We will always ensure that all teaching is delivered sensitively, appropriately, and in a way that supports children's understanding and wellbeing.

In Year 6, there are two specific lessons within our RSE curriculum that cover human reproduction and conception. Parents do have the right to request that their child be withdrawn from these non-statutory sex education lessons. Opportunity will be given, ahead of teaching, when your child is in Year 6 for this to be discussed further.

We will always ensure that all teaching is delivered sensitively, appropriately, and in a way that supports children's understanding, safety, and wellbeing.
